ABOUT

Flux Furniture  is a chair that’s made of one specific rule that decided the whole collection. The creators wanted to create a chair that could be folded out of one piece. This for reasons like, it would make it easy to take it with you and it would be better for the environment in terms of fabrication and shipping. The creators are from TU Delft and they won a price when proposing the idea. They decided to team up and actually make this furniture, which has started from the chairs to actual bars. Fun fact: it’s also possible to custom the designs to, for example, chose a color or put your brand on it.

CREATORS

Tom Schouten and Douwe Jacobs

RULES/RESTRICTION

They started there project with the one simple rule, they wanted to make a chair (what later would be a whole line of furniture) foldable. This would take a lot of mathematics to get it right.

COMMENT

What I like about this project is that it has actually a sustainable aspect. The rule/restriction of making it foldable would make a very specific design and it isn’t only limited to one piece of furniture.

ABOUT: Dutch designers Daphna Laurens have created a series of storage containers that partially conceal their contents behind metal grilles. The covers can be separated from the bowls to fill them, or they can be used singly as open containers.

CREATOR: Daphna Laurens

RULES: Using material; aluminium and cork to create a series of storage containers.

COMMENTS: I think this is a really clever and nice idea to combine three different materials by creating a totally new kind of containers.

These tools by Cheng Guo are controlled by simple mouth movements like chewing and blowing
The Mouth Factory includes a drill, a lathe and machines for rotational moulding and vacuum forming.

CREATOR
The Mouth Factory is created by Cheng Guo and was his graduation project for the Royal College of Art.

RULES /RESTRICTIONS
Blow or chew with you mouth that is the only way to make it work.

COMMENTS

I really like this project because it reminds me of a brace i had when i was jonger.
And it looks really scary because the tools are so big, but you can make nice things just because of chewing.

About

Hypnopompic is a collection of surreal tapestries by designer Kustaa Saksi. The artworks are  based on the confusion of dream and reality that can occur as you wake up. It is a state of consciousness, in which you can experience the presence, or see creatures and animals, such as spiders, monkeys and insects. Hypnopompic state has also been affiliated with visual delusions caused by migraine.

Creator

The creator is Kustaa Saksi, he made the tapestries using the  jacquard weaving technique. The textiles are made of mohair, alpaca wool, cotton and synthetic materials.

Rules

The tapestries are all based on the same subject and are all made with the same technique.

Comment

I think the tapestries are really beautifully made. I love the colors, the patterns and everything about it. I can see his references to the subject, and that how he created these psychedelic worlds which i really like, but mostly i find them very beautiful.

ABOUT

In order to become a more ‘human-oriented’ brand, Volvo has launched a Facebook application called You Inside. The crowdsourcing application enables fans to post images of the things they keep inside their cars along with info about their vehicles and lifestyles. Volvo analyses the information and delivers a personality profile, with users able to dip into other’s You Inside profiles too. Data gathered by the app on the social network will be fed into research for vehicle development at Volvo.

CREATOR

The campaign/platform has been launched by Volvo itself on Facebook, where the users contribute to the collection by sharing data. Volvo uses the data to create a collective collection.

What makes Volvo Cars unique in the automotive world is its focus on human values in life. Caring about yourself and others; the safety concept encompasses not only the passengers of the car, but also passengers in other cars, and pedestrians. Environmental care goes beyond legislation – and consideration for customers shall imbue the entire company.

RULES / RESTRICTIONS

The user data is limited to their own lifestyle and physical or practical automobile assets, usage and information. The platform operates on Facebook only, so the users need a Facebook account and must agree to their data being shared with others and being used by Volvo for their market and research goals.

COMMENTS

Certain privacy questions arise with this project and it makes me wonder what kind of policy Volvo manages when processing user data. However, I like the philosophy of Volvo for focusing on the personal human experience and their willingness to be actively involved with improving this.

About:

This is a project i did in Q7 for my practice Hacking. This is a collaboration with another fashion student.                                                                     The concept of this installation is about ‘ kill your darlings’ what means: make choices, focus on one idea and go for it! Always in our feedback we here this one line. So we thought why not making a machine that kills your darlings for you. We made a sculpture shape of a light bulb that has pins in it, (this one stands for the killer), and we had balloons that stands for the (darlings). We made a installation within the inside double tape so the balloons will stay in the installation.

Because the balloons explode the are create a pattern on the double taped installation                                                                                                 The audience can choose to blow their own darlings or the want to kill ours.

Creator:

We made the platform for the audience and they made the patterns on the installation and the ‘collection’ paintings. We gave them the tools the create there own painting.

Rules:

We only used balloons and the audience to create the painting

Comment:

It was a surprise that it worked out quite well and that people really want to blow their darlings in are installation.
